Amazon's Drop Shipping Policy,
Explained Line by Line
Why purchasing products from another online retailer and having them ship directly to the customer is prohibited, why retail receipts get auto-rejected in 2026 audits, and how compliant 2-step wholesale works.
The Official Text of Policy G201808410
βDrop shipping, or allowing a third party to fulfill orders to customers on your behalf, is generally acceptable. If you intend to fulfill orders using a drop shipper, you must strictly adhere to the following policies:
- You must always be the seller of record of your products.
- You must identify yourself as the seller of record of your products on all packing slips, invoices, external packaging, and other information included or provided in connection with them.
- You must remove any packing slips, invoices, external packaging, or other information identifying a third-party drop shipper prior to shipping the order.
- You must be responsible for accepting and processing customer returns of your products.
- You must comply with all other applicable terms of your seller agreement and relevant Amazon policies.β
Examples of Explicitly Prohibited Drop Shipping
- Purchasing products from another retailer (including Amazon, Walmart, Target, or Costco) and having that retailer ship directly to customers.
- Shipping orders with packing slips, invoices, external packaging, or other information indicating a seller name or contact information other than your own.
Retail arbitrage dropshipping triggers customer complaints the moment a buyer opens a box branded with another retailer's tape or receipt. This leads to swift Account Health violations under Section 3 of the Amazon Services Business Solutions Agreement.
Why Walmart & Target Receipts Fail In 2026 Audits
Many naive operators believe that rerouting a Walmart box through a prep center solves everything because the customer never sees the retail box.
However, Amazon conducts sourcing verification audits triggered by:
- Customer authenticity complaints or inauthentic item alerts.
- Intellectual property notices filed by brand owners under Brand Registry.
- Velocity reviews when new seller accounts experience rapid sales growth.
When Amazon requests proof of sourcing, seller performance guidelines state that:
- Must reflect sales volume during the last 365 days.
- Must include supplier contact info (name, phone, address, website).
- Must be issued directly to the client's registered legal business name.
- Retail receipts, order confirmations, and packing slips are explicitly not accepted.
Because retail receipts are rejected, accounts lacking authorized distributor invoices face an 85%+ permanent suspension rate within 30 days of the first audit.
